Matt Macey has passed a Hibernian medical but is waiting on finalising an Arsenal pay-off before sealing the transfer, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

This site first broke the news yesterday morning that the 26-year-old was headed to Easter Road to undergo a medical and sign a short-term deal running until the end of the season.

An Arsenal source has told Football Insider that Macey has completed a medical with Hibs and agreed personal terms.

But the move has not yet been sealed as he is waiting on finalising a "compromise deal" with the London giants.

That will involve Arsenal paying up a significant portion of the remainder of Macey's contract, which runs until the end of June.

Talks are said to be at an advanced stage.

The 6ft 7in keeper has been told he will not get a contract extension at Emirates Stadium to replace his current agreement.

It will bring an end to Macey's eight-year spell at Emirates Stadium that began in October 2013 when he signed from Bristol Rovers.

The shot-stopper has the chance to ignite his career in Scotland with the imminent move to Easter Road.

He was unable to make a first-team impression at Arsenal despite his two senior appearances last season.

Macey kept a clean sheet on an impressive debut against Red Star Belgrade in the Europa League and also played in the Carabao Cup win over Norwich City.

But he could not climb above the number three keeper spot at Arsenal and found himself behind Bernd Leno and Runar Runarsson in the pecking order this season.

Macey has previously had loan spells at Accrington Stanley and Luton Town in League Two, and Plymouth Argyle in League One.

In other news, it can be REVEALED that Arsenal have secured their first January signing after he was granted permission to complete his medical.
