Leeds United are battling several Premier League clubs for Oldham's teenage defender Tom Hamer, Football Insider sources understand.

Leeds, Everton, Burnley and Brighton have all been keeping tabs on Hamer since he came into the Oldham team as they see him as a potential star in the making.

A well-placed source has told Football Insider the four clubs are now ready to test Oldham's resolve to hang onto Hamer by firming up their interest with bids before the transfer window closes next month.

Hamer broke into the Oldham side last season, making nine appearances in all competitions and he has been likened to former Oldham defender and current England international James Tarkowski.

The 18-year-old's emergence and performances last season have unsurprisingly brought him onto the radar of several clubs higher up the football pyramid.

Hamer signed his first professional contract with Oldham in April and the League Two club would find it hard to turn down any sizeable offer for the teenager.

Leeds' pursuit is being led by under-fire director of football Victor Orta, who has already lost out on a number of key summer targets such as Kyle Bartley, Abel Hernandez and Florian Jozefzoon.
