Everton are plotting a beat-the-deadline move for PSV Eindhoven winger Steven Bergwijn if they fail to land Wilfried Zaha, Football Insider understands.

Everton have been chasing a top-class winger all summer and have had Crystal Palace star Zaha as their top target, but they have so far failed to agree a deal with Palace.

The Toffees saw a bid rejected for Arsenal winger Alex Iwobi as they considered an alternative to Zaha and now an Everton source has told Football Insider that Bergwijn has emerged as a target for the club.

Bergwijn has been linked with a move to the Premier League for some time after catching the eye for club and country over the past couple of seasons.

He has won five caps for the Netherlands after breaking through into the team at the end of last year, and he has Champions League experience with PSV.

Everton's director of football Marcel Brands is a big admirer of Bergwijn having worked with him at PSV and he would use his connections at the Dutch club to try and set up a late move for the Holland international.
