Exclusive: Coventry City set sights on signing Man United midfielder wanted by Huddersfield

Coventry City have joined Huddersfield Town in the hunt to sign Manchester United midfielder James Garner on loan this summer, Football Insider understands.

As revealed by Football Insider earlier this week, the Terriers have registered their interest in taking the 19-year-old on a temporary basis for next season.

A Coventry source has told Football Insider that the Championship new boys are also in pursuit of the teenage talent as they prepare for their return to the second tier of English football.

The midfielder is viewed as one of the brightest young prospects currently at Old Trafford and has regularly trained among the senior squad under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

He already has seven first-team appearances under his belt for the Red Devils but is expected to be given the green light to leave on loan this summer.

Solskjaer and the coaching staff want Garner to be playing regularly at a Championship side and both Huddersfield and Coventry are keen to offer him the game time United want.

The youngster made his debut for Manchester United back in February 2019 when he came off the bench late in a Premier League clash against Crystal Palace.

Most of his first-team minutes came in the Europa League last season as he started against Partizan Belgrade, FC Astana and AZ Alkmaar.

Coventry have already started their recruitment drive ahead of their Championship return with the likes of Callum O'Hare and Gustavo Hamer signed up on permanent deals.

They also already have two Premier League loanees on their books in the shape of Ryan Giles and Leo Ostigard, who have joined from Wolves and Brighton respectively.
