Hibernian are set to sign defender Tom James from Yeovil Town after he agreed the terms of a three-year contract, Football Insider can reveal.

The Edinburgh club have taken advantage of the 23-year-old's contract status to wrap up a deal that should be announced imminently.

A Hibs source has told Football Insider the deal is done and the paperwork if being finalised on the capture of a player who has attracted strong interest from English clubs.

The Welsh right-back was linked with Celtic, Swansea City and Hull City last year, and came close to joining West Brom in a £450,000 transfer last summer.

He has opted to leave Yeovil, with his contract set to soon expire, after they finished bottom of League Two and dropped out of the English Football League.

James, who started his career at Cardiff City and has been capped by Wales at Under-19 level, played 42 times for Yeovil last season, scoring seven goals and assisting three.

He is a versatile operator who can slot in to left-back and centre-back as well as his favoured right-back position.

Hibs manager Paul Heckingbottom has spoken of the need to strengthen his squad this summer after they finished fifth in last season's Scottish Premiership.
