Lee Johnson has agreed a new four-year deal to extend his stay at Bristol City, Football Insider can reveal.

The Robins have moved to tie down Johnson to a new long-term contract to end speculation surrounding the 37-year-old's future after he was linked with the Fulham and West Brom jobs recently.

Johnson is highly-regarded in coaching circles after impressing at Oldham, Barnsley and now Bristol City.

Since joining Bristol City in 2016 he has guided the club to the semi-finals of the League Cup and they have just missed out on the play-off places during the last two seasons.

Johnson's previous deal was due to expire at the end of next season, but a City source has told Football Insider his new contract will see him remain at Ashton Gate until 2023.

The news will come as a massive boost to Bristol City as they aim to make a push for promotion to the Premier League next season.

It will be a blow to West Brom, who had been keeping tabs on Johnson and are looking for a permanent manager after sacking Darren Moore earlier this year.
