Basel centre-forward Albian Ajeti is undergoing a West Ham medical as he puts the finishing touches to an £8.5million transfer, Football Insider understands.

The Premier League club have had a bid accepted for the 22-year-old by the Swiss outfit and are close to signing him before tomorrow's transfer cut-off.

A West Ham source has told Football Insider the club have agreed a fee that will be worth £8.5million including add-ons.

The Hammers had initially bid £4.5million - around half of Basel's asking price - but have upped their offer in the last 24 hours after Manuel Pellegrini made clear his desire to sign the striker.

There is now a growing likelihood that Ajeti will be confirmed as West Ham's second forward signing this summer, following the capture of Sebastien Haller from Frankfurt last month.

Ajeti has an impressive goalscoring record for Switzerland and Basel, scoring an outstanding 21 times from 43 matches for his club last season and 43 in 96 appearances in total.
