Rangers are bracing themselves for a battle to keep hold of star striker Alfredo Morelos in the January transfer window as they expect offers to flood in amid Bordeaux interest, Football Insider sources understands.

The Light Blues rejected several offers for Morelos during the summer transfer window and managed to tie down the Colombian to a new deal soon after the window closed.

Morelos, who joined Rangers from HJK Helsinki in the summer of 2017, was handed a new deal until 2022 and brought in line with the other top earners at Ibrox on around £30,000 a week.

Morelos is the Scottish Premiership's top scorer with nine goals despite being sent-off twice in the league this season and he has no shortage of admirers despite his disciplinary record.

Morelos' suitors, including Bordeaux and Dynamo Kiev, have continued to monitor the striker's situation in Scotland and could renew their interest in the player when the transfer window reopens next month.

Several other overseas clubs are also weighing up moves for Morelos and are ready to test Rangers' resolve to hang onto their talisman.

Rangers would not welcome any moves for Morelos in January as they look to maintain their push for the title, but they are expecting offers to arrive for the South American hit-man.
