Tottenham have tabled an opening bid for Leeds United winger Jack Clarke, Football Insider understands.

The two clubs have held talks over the transfer of the Elland Road academy product, 18, with Leeds valuing him at around the £20million mark.

A source with knowledge of the situation has told Football Insider that Premier League giants Spurs have submitted a "significant" offer for Clarke, but it "falls well short" of the price the Championship club want.

Leeds do not want to lose Clarke, but may have to cash in on at least one of their prize assets this summer after failing to secure promotion to the Premier League.

Football Insider first broke the news last month that Tottenham are preparing a move to sign Elland Road academy product after encouragement that he could be lured away this summer, while there is also interest in him from the likes of Bournemouth and Southampton.

Spurs regard Clarke as a home-grown player of immense talent, who has the potential to play at Premier League and Champions League level.

The teenager burst on to the scene last autumn after being fast-tracked into the Leeds first team by manager Marcelo Bielsa.

He produced a series of dazzling cameos, mainly as a substitute, before a mystery virus suffered in February curtailed his progress and led to him slipping on to the fringes of the team.
