New Rangers boss Steven Gerrard is looking to bring in three new central defenders to Ibrox this summer, Football Insider sources understands.

Gerrard has made defensive reinforcements his top priority as he looks to build a side capable of challenging champions Celtic next season.

A well-placed source has told Football Insider that as well as Goldson, Gerrard is looking to bring in another two centre-backs to help shore up Gers’ backline.

Gerrard has earmarked one of the centre-backs arriving on a permanent basis, another on loan and another on a free transfer as he wheels and deals with his transfer kitty at Rangers.

Rangers were actually the top scorers in the Scottish Premiership this season with 73 goals, but they condeded 50 goals which was the most of any of the sides in the top six.

Celtic conceded only 25 goals as they went on to claim a seventh successive title this season and Gerrard knows he must address Rangers' defensive deficiences if they are to overtake Celtic next season.
