Exclusive: Robinson identifies double West Ham boost in reported hunt for 'Ambitious' signing

Paul Robinson suggests that West Ham have two key advantages if they want to sign Chelsea midfielder Ross Barkley this summer.

The former Spurs and England goalkeeper, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, says that the promise of regular game time, as well as a relationship with David Moyes from their Everton days, gives the Hammers a real chance.

It has been reported that the Irons are keen on snapping up a loan move for the 26-year-old in a bid to bolster their options in the middle of the park.

With Euro 2020 around the corner and a place in the England squad at stake, Robinson says regular playing time, coupled with manager and player having worked together before, could see Barkley move across London this month.

"I think ambitious is the right word," Robinson told Football Insider.

"I think the only two reasons that could come off is because of David Moyes, the Everton link when David was at Everton, and from Ross' personal season, his international future, he probably needs to play more football.

"Whether that's away from Stamford Bridge or at Stamford Bridge, time will tell, but he's looking to be in Southgate's squad for the Euros in the summer. If he's only played a bit-part at Chelsea, West Ham have got two things in their favour.

"David Moyes knows him very well from his Everton days and Ross Barkley needs to play football between now and the end of the season." 

Barkley has played just 11 times across all competitions for Frank Lampard's side this season, injury problems leaving him in and out the side.
