Sheffield United have offered veteran defender Phil Jagielka a new one-year deal, Football Insider can reveal.

Chris Wilder is keen for the 37-year-old to stay beyond this summer and finish his career at Bramall Lane.

A Sheffield United source has told Football Insider that the club have tabled the former England international a 12-month contract.

Jagielka began his career with the Blades and made his professional debut for the club on 5 May 2000 against Swindon Town.

He left for Everton in 2007 but returned to Sheffield last summer upon the expiration of his contract at Goodison Park.

The centre-half has made just 10 appearances this season, with six of those coming in the Premier League.

He has struggled to break into the starting eleven due largely to the successes of Jack O'Connell, John Egan and Chris Basham.

Only Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United have conceded less than Chris Wilder's newly-promoted side over the course of the season.

Jagielka has 366 Premier League appearances to his name, almost equal to the entirety of the Blades squad combined.

He has 40 England caps to his name and was part of Roy Hodgson's squad for the 2014 World Cup and started in losses against Italy and Uruguay.
