West Bromwich Albion are close to signing free agent Wes Hoolahan after taking the former Norwich City star on trial, Football Insider sources understands.

Hoolahan is a free agent after leaving Norwich at the end of last season when his contract expired.

A well-placed source has told Football Insider that the 43-times Republic of Ireland international Hoolahan is set to spend the next couple of days training with West Brom so Baggies boss Darren Moore can have a look at him at close quarters.

Moore is looking to add more creativity to his side and is in the market for attacking reinforcements after failing in a loan deadline day swoop for Blackburn Rovers schemer Bradley Dack.

If Hoolahan impresses during his training stint at West Brom he could be offered a short-term deal to join the Championship club.

Hoolahan left Norwich last May after 10 years at the club following his arrival from Blackpool in the summer of 2008.

The skilful attacker made 352 appearances for Norwich playing across the top three divisions in the country and earned legendary status amongst the club's fans.

In other West Brom news, Football Insider can reveal the club close to reunion attacker transfer.
