Expert shares 'massive' verdict on Tottenham signing two stars after source's update
Steven Bergwijn's Tottenham exit "makes sense" as Tottenham have to balance the books this summer.
That’s according to former Aston Villa and Scotland boss Alex McLeish, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Spurs' transfer business.
On Tuesday (21 June) Football Insider revealed Tottenham are in advanced talks with Ajax over a deal for Bergwijn though the club will not drop their £26million asking price.
Spurs have already signed three players this summer with Ivan Perisic, Fraser Forster and Yves Bissouma already arriving at the club.
As per The Guardian (14 June), Spurs have paid £22.5million for his services.
McLeish claims two more signings will make a "massive difference" to the squad, something that can be facilitated by Bergwijn's sale.
"It makes sense, they have to balance the books," McLeish told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild
"Daniel Levy is great at that. Sometimes he hasn't given his manager the money or the support.
"Conte seems to have arrested that in the spurs camp. This is a team who finished the season absolutely brilliantly.
"They look as if they are a team that can make an impact next season. One or two more players can make a massive difference to Tottenham's improvement."
Bergwijn’s last Premier League start for Tottenham came on 23 January in a 2-0 loss to Chelsea.
He was regularly used off the bench in the second half in the 2021-22 season but rarely appeared for more than 15 minutes.
