Dennis Cirkin has arrived on Wearside to complete a transfer from Tottenham to Sunderland, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

The defender, 19, is joining the League One giants on a permanent deal after they had a six-figure bid accepted by Spurs.

A Sunderland source has told Football Insider that Cirkin is on Wearside at lunchtime today to undergo a medical and put the finishing touches to the transfer as well as sign a contract.

He has agreed the terms of a four-year contract that runs until the summer of 2021.

Talks have subsequently progressed and an agreement was reached over the weekend.

Cirkin has taken the bold move to leave a Premier League giant to drop down two divisions after rejecting Spurs' offer of a new contract.

He decided to accept Sunderland's offer after recognising the opportunity of first-team football this season was distant, with Sergio Reguilon, Ben Davies and Ryan Sessegnon ahead of him in the left-back pecking order.

In Lee Johnson's side he is expected to slot straight into the team as they look to build upon their opening-day 2-1 win over Wigan Athletic.

The left-footed teenager was hailed as a rising star by Jose Mourinho when he took over as manager in November 2019.

The Portugese described the youngster in November 2019, via a media conference, as a player with "a lot of quality".

Cirkin first made the bench for the senior team as a 17-year-old shortly after signing his first professional contract.

His deal is due to expire in 2022 and Spurs had offered him a new long-term deal.
