Tottenham could terminate Hugo Lloris' contract after he failed to secure a deadline-day move, sources have told Football Insider.

The Spurs star, 36, was offered a late move to Premier League club Newcastle, as well as being approached by Nice after they ripped up Kasper Schmeichel's deal.

But Lloris could not agree terms and is staying in north London despite being frozen out of the team by new manager Ange Postecoglou.

The France World Cup winner has another year remaining on his contract and had been given the green light to find a new club over the summer.

Spurs could now agree to pay off their long-serving skipper and allow him to leave as a free agent.

Lloris has been replaced in the Tottenham goal following Postecoglou's appointment.

Gugliemo Vicario arrived early in the summer window from Empoli for a reported initial fee of £17.2million.

The Italian has played in all three Premier League fixtures so far, keeping two clean sheets and conceding two goals.

Fraser Forster also played in between the sticks for the League Cup loss against Fulham earlier this week (29 August), with Lloris excluded from every matchday squad so far this term.

The long-serving Spurs star made 31 appearances across all competitions last season but was replaced in the second half of the season after a combination of injury worries and bad form.

Lloris joined from Lyon in 2012 and has gone on to make 447 appearances in a Tottenham shirt - 361 of which have come in the Premier League.

Postecoglou's side face newly-promoted Burnley at Turf Moor on Saturday (2 September).
