Hutton claims Rangers are on the verge of 'unbelievable' deal
Tying Connor Goldson down to a new contract would be "huge" for Rangers, according to Alan Hutton.
The former Gers full-back, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested other clubs would be "sniffing about" the 28-year-old after his "unbelievable" season.
Speaking to Rangers TV after Sunday's 2-0 win over Celtic, Steven Gerrard confirmed the club are in contract talks with both Goldson and midfielder Glen Kamara.
The centre-back's current terms are set to expire next summer.
As revealed by Football Insider back in October, Leeds United, West Ham, Everton and West Brom were all interested in the defender last summer.
Goldson has played every single minute of Rangers' 51 games across all competitions this term.
He has been a firm favourite of Gerrard and has 151 appearances under his belt since joining in 2018.
Hutton admitted the defender's defensive and leadership abilities had shone through at Ibrox.
As such, he insisted a new contract was an absolute must amid rival interest.
"He's done great since he's become a Rangers player," Hutton told Football Insider's Russell Edge.
"A real rock, a real leader. When Tavernier's not been there he has stepped up to the plate and managed it really well. Even through all the racism stuff, I thought he handled himself brilliantly.
"With that and his performances, he totally deserves the new contract. I don't think he's missed a minute, has he, which is absolutely outstanding. They've only conceded three goals at Ibrox in the league, 10 goals overall.
"I mean it's unbelievable what they've actually achieved this season. They can go unbeaten and he's a huge part of that. There'll probably be teams sniffing about him because his performances have been so high.
"From a Rangers point of view, I think that's one they need to tie down as soon as possible."
