Rangers are set to offer a bumper long-term contract to goalscoring Charlton Athletic midfielder Joe Aribo in a bid to win the race for his signature, Football Insider can reveal.

Steven Gerrard and the Gers recruitment staff have identified the 22-year-old as a firm target who has the ability to be a major force in the Scottish Premiership.

Ibrox sources have told Football Insider that tentative discussions have begun with the player and his camp over the possibility of him heading north of the border.

The Light Blues are willing to offer Aribo a long-term deal and a significant pay rise to join them from the Londoners, who have just been promoted to the Championship.

Aribo is in demand after scoring 10 goals from midfield as well as supplying five assists for the side that secured promotion via the play-offs.

Rangers and Celtic, who are also keen on the rising star, have an advantage as cross-border rules mean they would only have to pay a minor compensation fee for the Addicks academy graduate.

Aribo has made 97 appearances in all competitions for Charlton and is braced for multiple offers as he prepares to exit the Londoners.
