Monday spelt the appointment of Carmelo Del Pozo as director of football at Deportivo La Coruna in a move which ended all talk of Leeds United's Victor Orta himself taking on the position.

It now looks as though the Spaniard will be staying put which means he can now turn his attention to tying up a deal for Carpi striker Jerry Mbakogu, who has been strongly linked with a move to Elland Road this summer.

The Whites have been on the look-out for a replacement for Chris Woods' goals after the hitman left the club last summer to join Premier League side, Burnley.

So far Orta's replacements on the goal front have been a disaster.

Jay-Roy Grot, Caleb Ekuban, and Pierre-Michel Lasogga have all fallen flat on their faces with the Championship side, leaving fans questioning the director of football's credentials.

Mbakogu has been a target of Orta's for some time now and it was reported in the Yorkshire Evening Post back in January that the club were close to signing the Nigerian.

And after the Serie B forward was awarded his dual nationality, it would appear that all the cards are falling into place - Orta remaining being the final card.
