Man United are expected to sign a new central midfielder if they complete the sale of Scott McTominay, sources have told Football Insider.

Fulham are set to return with a new and improved bid for the 27-year-old after having their opening offer rejected by the 20-time Premier League champions.

The west London club face competition from West Ham, Newcastle United, and Southampton who all hold an interest in the Scotland international.

United are keeping tabs on several midfield targets including PSG's Manuel Ugarte, Monaco man Youssouf Fofana, and Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi.

Man United will look to sign Scott McTominay replacement if sold

McTominay only has one year left on his contract at Old Trafford but the club have the ability to trigger a 12-month extension should they wish.

The midfielder has become a vital part of the squad since breaking into the first-team of his boyhood club back in 2017.

Scotland international McTominay made 43 appearances across all competitions for United in the 2023-24 campaign, starting in 27 of those outings.

He notched 10 goals and three assists last term as Ten Hag’s side finished eighth in the Premier League but won the FA Cup to secure Europa League qualification.
