Man United are set to be handed "a big boost" by the return of Edinson Cavani from injury over the festive period.

That is the view of ex-Premier League striker Kevin Campbell, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the latest on the 34-year-old's recovery.

Cavani has been sidelined with a tendon problem since United's 3-0 at Spurs last month.

Footage on Twitter showed the striker stepping up his recovery from injury over the international break.

Campbell believes Ole Gunnar Solskjaer should play with a front two of Cavani and Cristiano Ronaldo when possible.

"It would be a big boost to have Cavani back before Christmas because that's a crucial period in the season," he told Football Insider.

"He is a top, top player. He proved his worth to United in that Spurs game. Coming off the back of that Liverpool game they needed a result. He was outstanding at the top end of the pitch along with Ronaldo.

"Obviously, he's picked up an injury since and United haven't been the same team.

"They key for Solskjaer is getting Cavani and Ronaldo playing up top together. They need to get him fit.

"One thing Cavani does is works ever so hard. I think it will be a big boost when he's back."
