Celtic and West Ham legend Frank McAvennie joined the Football Insider stable in June 2020 and has not disappointed with his own brand of unique punditry. He loves talking football almost as much as he loved scoring goals, and still has close links in the dressing room at Parkhead.

Matt O'Riley will stay at Celtic for one more year.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Hoops striker Frank McAvennie said Brendan Rodgers is the type of coach players want to work with.

The 22-year-old's current contract at Parkhead runs until 2026 after joining from MK Dons last January.

According to the transfer expert Fabrizio Romano (7 June), English top flight side Brighton are considering a move for the Denmark youth international.

Clubs in Germany are also eyeing up a move for O'Riley this summer.

The Hoops have already undergone massive change this summer after it was confirmed former boss Brendan Rodgers has replaced Ange Postecoglou as manager.

But McAvennie isn't worried about O'Riley's departure just yet.

"Brendan is a world renowned coach, he is a coach that people want to play for," he told Football Insider.

"I would imagine that all the players at Celtic will want to be coached by him.

"It is completely different from Ange but he is a good coach and he will get these boys playing better.

"O'Riley never set the world on fire when he was in England and he would go down there a better player. But I would give myself a year under Brendan."

O'Riley made 52 appearances for the Celts across all competitions this season.

He scored four goals and provided 14 assists in those outings.
