Arsenal are finalising the £2.5million transfer of England Under-21 international defender Rob Holding from Bolton,  Football Insider sources understand.

The 20-year-old is understood to have travelled down to London on Monday night for a medical and to put the finishing touches to the deal.

An Arsenal recruitment source told Football Insider that the club are confident Holding will become their third summer signing following the captures of midfielder Granit Xhaka and Japanese forward Takuma Asano.

Holding has been with Bolton since the age of seven and made his senior bow for his boyhood club in a League Cup tie with Burton last August.

Capable of playing as either a centre-back or a full-back, Holding made 30 appearances last term and was a shining light in Bolton's wretched campaign that ended in relegation to League One.

Manager Arsene Wenger is a big fan of the England under-21 international and has beaten off competition from big-spenders Bournemouth to land him.

Holding was named Bolton's Player of the Year last season, and was part of Gareth Southgate's under-21 side that won the Toulon Tournament.
