Medical today: Hibernian agree to sign Macey from Arsenal - Exclusive
Arsenal goalkeeper Matt Macey is set to undergo a Hibernian medical today as he finalises a short-term move, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.
The 26-year-old giant is heading to the Edinburgh club to finalise a loan deal that will run until the end of the season.
An Arsenal source has told Football Insider that Mikel Arteta has given the green light to Macey leaving Emirates Stadium as he does not feature in his plans for the rest of the campaign.
The long-term Arsenal future of the shot-stopper is up in the air as his contract expires at the end of the season.
The Bath-born 6ft 7in keeper has spent the last eight years at the Gunners since joining from Bristol Rovers in October 2013.
He has struggled to break into the first team at Arsenal and has made just two senior appearances.
Both of those came last season.
He kept a clean sheet on an impressive debut against Red Star Belgrade in the Europa League and also played in the Carabao Cup win over Norwich City.
Macey has previously had loan spells at Accrington Stanley and Luton Town in League Two, and Plymouth Argyle in League One.
At Arsenal, Bernd Leno is the established number one, and summer signing Runar Runarsson is his deputy.
The Icelandic was lured from Dijon in the summer as a replacement for Emiliano Martinez, who joined Aston Villa for an initial £17million fee.
