Greg Docherty is finalising a transfer to Hull City after Rangers accepted a £400,000 bid, Football Insider has learned.

The League One club are poised to announce the capture of the midfielder, 23, after he was given the green light to leave the Glasgow giants.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Docherty has completed a Hull medical and the deal is set to be announced in the next 24 hours.

Steven Gerrard does not regard Docherty as part of his plans for this season and is willing to let him go to raise funds.

Rangers are well staffed in central midfield with Glen Kamara, Steven Davis, Ryan Jack, Joe Aribo and Scott Arfield vying for the starting slots.

Docherty has spent the last two terms on loan, including a spell at Hibernian in the second half of last season.

He had an outstanding campaign at Shrewsbury Town in 2018-19 when he scored 10 goals and provided 11 assists from 51 matches in all competitions.

Gerrard has spoken warmly of Docherty's efforts in training back at his parent club but he has failed to make a single matchday squad this season.

The former Scotland Under-21 international joined Rangers from Hamilton in January 2018 for a fee of around £600,000.

He is set to leave the Light Blues after playing just 19 matches, in which he did not score but did supply six assists.
