Newcastle have been offered £5million for Papiss Cisse by a Qatari club, according to a report.

The Magpies striker has endured a wretched season for Newcastle in which the Northerners were relegated into the Championship and Cisse managed just three goals in 21 Premier League appearances.

The Daily Mail claim that Lekhwiya are keen on the frontman's services and have earmarked Cisse as the man to fire them to the Qatar Star League title.

Cisse, who cost the Magpies £9million in 2010, would be on the high end of Newcastle's earners and £5million would be a reasonable return for a player who has turned 30.

Lekhwiya finished fourth this season with their topscorer Youssef Msakni bagging 14 goals in the league.

Cisse is reportedly surplus to requirements at Newcastle after over 130 appearances for the club and 44 goals. He could be the first of the regulars to leave the club this summer.

The Senegalese international is also subject of interest from China, whose clubs have made a name for themselves in recent months by paying huge sums of money for players across Europe, who are perhaps past their peak.

Cisse could certainly fall into that category with just three goals in the past 12 months in a Newcastle shirt.

Newcastle are eager to trim their wage bill as they prepare for life in the Championship and the likes of Moussa Sissoko, Andros Townsend and top scorer Georginio Wijnaldum could also depart.

In other Newcastle news, Rafael Benitez may have his eye on one player that he would like to bring in this summer.
