Nottingham Forest want to sign former Southampton striker Che Adams on a free transfer after leaving St Mary's this summer.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider's Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O'Rourke revealed that Adams, 27, has emerged as one of the club's top striker targets after concerns around Taiwo Awonyi's injury issues.

Adams' contract at Southampton expired on 1 July following the club's promotion to the Premier League and Forest are among multiple clubs targeting a swoop for his signature.

This comes after Football Insider exclusively revealed that Nuno Espirito Santo's side are pushing to lure the Scotland international to the City Ground after Wolves' attempts.

Nottingham Forest could sign Che Adams after Southampton exit

Adams saw his Southampton contract expire despite Russell Martin's admission that he would "love" to keep the striker at St Mary's.

Having joined the club from Birmingham City in a £15million deal in 2019, Adams made 191 appearances for the club, scoring 48 goals and providing 20 assists.

In last season's Championship campaign, he found the net 15 times in 40 appearances, helping fire his team to promotion via the playoffs.

However, only 25 of those appearances came from the start, with Adam Armstrong stamping his authority as the club's first-choice striker.

Forest, meanwhile, have struggled for a consistent source of goals despite Chris Wood's strong form which saw him score 14 Premier League goals last season.

Awonyi remains the first-choice under Espirito Santo, but missed a large portion of the season with a recurring hamstring issue.

As a result, Adams' availability has moved him higher up Forest's list of priorities, and they could now be set to make a move for his signature.
