Tottenham handed Troy Parrott a huge pay rise to tie him to a new contract this week, Football Insider can reveal.

Spurs announced on their official media channels yesterday that the striker has signed a three-and-a-half year agreement immediately after turning 18.

A Tottenham source has told Football Insider that the agreement is worth nearly £20,000-a-week for Parrott and represents a massive upgrade on the first professional deal he penned when he turned 17.

The Londoners moved to tie Parrott down amid interest in him from Europe's elite, including Bayern Munich.

He is regarded by the club as a young player with a big future even though Jose Mourinho has said he is "not ready" to play regularly for the first team.

Parrott has made two senior Spurs appearances and was on the bench for the midweek FA Cup win against Southampton.

He is an orthodox centre-forward but Mourinho has preferred to use Lucas Moura and Son Heung-Min up front during Harry Kane's long-term absence.

Parrott came close to leaving Tottenham on loan at the end of January amid interest from QPR and Charlton Athletic.

But the Premier League outfit pulled the plug on a deal after indicating to suitors earlier in the window they were willing to let him go out for the rest of the campaign.
