David Turnbull is set to undergo a Celtic medical after agreeing the terms of a five-year contract, Football Insider understands.

The Hoops have been given permission by Motherwell to discuss personal terms with the 19-year-old after agreeing a fee rising to £3.2million.

A source with knowledge of the player's situation has told Football Insider that Turnbull has already settled the terms of a bumper deal and he is pencilled in to complete medical tests this week and become Neil Lennon's first signing of the summer.

Celtic have fended off interest from multiple clubs north and south of the border for the signature of the highly rated teenager, who is regarded as one of the outstanding young talents in Scottish football.

As revealed by Football Insider last week, Turnbull had told friends that his preferred move was to make the short journey from Fir Park to Parkhead this summer.

Celtic are now set to seal the signing of the Scottish Football Writers Association's young player of the year after Lennon gave the green light for a concerted pursuit of a rising star he is convinced is destined to achieve big things.

Motherwell made it clear in a statement on Wednesday night they could not turn down an offer that is "transformational" for their club and will secure their immediate future.

Turnbull made a huge impact for 'Well in the recent season, scoring a hugely impressive 16 goals as well as supplying seven assists from his 34 appearances.

The Scotland Under-21 international ended the campaign in a blaze of goals and dazzling performances to convince Celtic as well as clubs in the Premier League and English Championship to bid for him.
