Rangers are in the market for a new goalkeeper and could seal a January deal, sources have told Football Insider.

The Glasgow giants are prioritising the capture of a proven shot-stopper and have set aside "significant" cash from the budget to get a deal done.

Rangers held back from recruiting a new keeper in the summer and instead opted to extend Allan McGregor's contract by another year, a deal first revealed by Football Insider on 9 May in what was a surprise to many at the time.

But Ibrox chiefs have decided that at least one keeper will be signed next year, with a reshuffle of the roster now seen as imperative.

It is likely McGregor's outstanding second spell at the club will come to an end next summer, by which time he will be 41.

There are also doubts over the future of Jon McLauglin, who is 35 and out of contract in the summer of 2024.

Robby McCrorie, 24, is the third senior keeper and has long been touted as the long-term Ibrox number one without having many opportunities to present his case.

He recently extended his contract by three years in a further indication of the esteem in which he is held at the club.

However, McGregor remains the Ibrox number one after taking back over from McLaughlin earlier in the season.

McGregor has played arguably the best football of his career since re-signing for the Glasgow giants in the summer of 2018.

Despite his brilliant shot-stopping and match-winning performances, he has been more fallible in the last two seasons, following his epic 2020-21 campaign.
