Rangers are on the brink of making multiple new signings, according to manager Pedro Caixinha.

The Portugese revealed at a media briefing on Monday that he is close to making his first signings since being appointed manager of the Scottish giants.

Caixinha is targeting new midfielders as he looks to strengthen one area of the pitch where Rangers have been found wanting in what has been a generally wretched campaign.

Caixinha has dismissed speculation that Rangers have made a move to sign Hearts midfield anchorman Alexandros Tziolis as "pure rubbish" but admitted he wants new players for that position.

"We are about to get one deal, or more than one deal, done in those positions, so we know what we want," Caixinha said, as quoted by the BBC Sport

.

"We know exactly what we are looking for and things are going in the direction we want."

Rangers' need for substantial reinforcements have been made clear since Caixinha took the reigns even though the results outside of Old Firm clashes have been encouraging.

The Glasgow giants beat fifth-placed Hearts 2-1 on Saturday thanks to goals from Joe Garner and Barrie McKay and have also recorded a 3-0 triumph over second-placed Aberdeen.

But Rangers are six points adrift of Aberdeen with just two matches of the campaign remaining and appear destined to finish in third in the table.
