Glen Kamara could leave Rangers next summer after signing a new contract, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker suggested Kamara's new Ibrox deal may include a formal release clause that works for all parties.

The midfielder put pen to paper on a new four-year contract with the Gers last week (September 22).

It came amid uncertainty over his long-term future with his previous deal set to expire in the summer of 2023.

It is understood there is an agreement in place he can leave Ibrox for a certain price.

Asked whether that could be a formal release clause, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: "Sometimes, you don't know the ins and outs of contracts.

"Maybe he's signed a long-term contract but in that there is a release clause.

"He's helped out Rangers and there may be a release clause for a certain amount of money that helps the club rather than losing him on a free transfer.

"It suits both parties. Maybe he gets a bigger wage until the end of the season and at the end of the season, the club get a bigger fee. It works out for both the player and the club."

Rangers

Kamara moved to Rangers from Dundee for a bargain £50,000 fee in January 2019 and has emerged as one of Steven Gerrard's key men.

Football Insider revealed in March he is valued at £10million by Ibrox chiefs and that was before he starred for Finland at this summer's European Championship.
