Rangers will not attempt to convert Dalcio's season-long loan into a permanent deal as he prepares to return to parent club Benfica, according to a report.

The Daily Record claim there is "no discussion" about the possibility of the winger, 21, staying on beyond the end of a campaign in which he has made no impact.

Dalcio became Rangers' third signing last summer amid a whirlwind spell of arrivals masterminded by ex-manager Pedro Caixinha.

The wide man, who has represented Portugal at Under-19 and Under-20 level, has made just three appearances for the club - home and away to Progres Niederkorn in the shambolic Europa League exit - and has just one minute of domestic action to his name after a sub appearance against Hamilton.

Football Insider verdict:

There are bad signings, and then there is Dalcio, an altogether new level of recruitment horror. Pedro Caixinha and his Portugese contacts had mixed results, to say the least - the fine capture of Daniel Candieas is counterbalanced by Fabio Cardoso, Bruno Alves and Dalcio. The 21-year-old is a Portugal Under-20 international but has proved to be hopelessly unsuited to the Scottish game as Rangers have been made to pay for their lack of due diligence. He will return to Benfica, but it is very unlikely he will ever make an appearance for the Portugese giants. This is a player nowhere near that kind of level.
