West Ham chiefs are spearheading the club's bid to sign Ajax forward Steven Bergwijn this month - but manager David Moyes is not keen, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking to the new edition of Football Insider's Inside Track Podcast, transfer correspondent Pete O'Rourke revealed that Moyes is eager to recruit a left winger in January, but is not convinced by the Dutchman.

It is believed that the former Tottenham man is a top target for Irons chiefs, led by technical director Tim Steidten, as a potential winter target and preliminary talks have been held over a potential deal.

Sources told Football Insider that a move for Bergwijn would depend on any outgoings the Hammers can complete this window.

Bergwijn has had a prolific season as Ajax's captain, notching eight goals and four assists in all competitions.

His two-and-a-half-year spell at Tottenham was not as successful, with the 26-year-old managing just 8 goals and 10 assists across 83 appearances.

Doubts remain regarding his ability to perform in the Premier League, with West Ham eager to bolster their attack with quality reinforcements in the wake of Lucas Paqueta's and Michail Antonio's long-term injuries.

West Ham sit sixth in the Premier League table and were most recently shocked with an early FA Cup exit against Bristol City in their third-round replay.

They are next in action in the Premier League against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane on Sunday afternoon (21 January).
