Leeds United and Kalvin Phillips are making final legal checks before signing the contract that will commit him to five more years at Elland Road, Football Insider can reveal.

As revealed by Football Insider this week, the club have reached an agreement in principle with the midfielder and his agent Kevin Sharp over a lucrative new deal.

A Leeds source has told Football Insider that the contract is with the lawyers of both parties before it will be signed off.

Barring any last-gasp hitches, Phillips will put pen to paper on an £8million-plus contract that will put him on pay parity with £40,000-a-week top player earners Kiko Casilla and Patrick Bamford.

It will replace his current £10,000-a-week deal, which was signed in 2017 when Andrea Radrizzani took over as owner and is set to expire in the summer of 2021.

Tying down Phillips will be a huge boost to Leeds and their supporters after he was the subject of bids of up to £20million from Premier League clubs, led by Aston Villa, in the summer.

Negotiations over the last few weeks have resulted in a resolution after the midfield anchorman had knocked back the club's opening offer following initial talks earlier in the summer.
