Victor Lindelof could extend his Man United contract after opening talks over a possible new deal, sources have told Football Insider.

A well-placed source has told Football Insider that the 28-year-old "earned the trust" of manager Erik ten Hag after a string of impressive performances at the end of the 2022-23 campaign.

Lindelof started each of the last nine Premier League games as Man United saw off competition from Liverpool and Brighton to secure a third-place finish.

The Sweden international currently has just 12 months left to run on his Old Trafford contract - which nets him a reported wage of £120,000-a-week.

He made 35 appearances across all competitions despite Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez being well ahead of him in the pecking order.

27 of those outings came as part of the starting lineup.

Lindelof impressed Ten Hag after coming into the side to replace Martinez following his late-season metatarsal injury.

The former Benfica star has been at the club since 2017 but won just his first trophy in England when Man United lifted the League Cup in February.

He cost a reported fee of £39.5million and signed an initial four-year deal at Old Trafford.

Lindelof extended that contract in 2019, penning a five-year agreement with the option of an additional year.

Man United

Man United are discussing the possibility of prolonging the 28-year-old's spell at the club once again despite being on the lookout for a new centre-back.
