Russell Martin could be set to receive a £6million boost to his transfer kitty after a Rangers deal has been agreed. 

Martin was appointed as the new Rangers boss in June as he looks to turn the club’s fortunes around on the pitch. 

The 39-year-old has been backed in the transfer market by the new owners after the US consortium, which is led by Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises, completed its takeover in May. 

Rangers have signed Oscar Cortes, Oliver Antman, Thelo Aasgaard, Emmanuel Fernandez, Djeidi Gassama, Joe Rothwell and Lyall Cameron on permanent deals. 

Meanwhile, Mikey Moore, Nasser Djiga and Max Aarons have all made the move to Ibrox on loan.

Rangers agree Jefte deal after fan criticism

Rangers have now agreed to sell defender Jefte to Palmeiras, with the deal set to land them a significant profit. 

The Rangers Review reported on Friday (15 August) Jefte will join the Brazilian side for £6million, just a year after making the move to Ibrox for £800,000 from Fluminense. 

Rangers fans have criticised Jefte’s performances in recent times, with many hoping he would move on this summer. 

It appears as though they are now set to get their wish as the 21-year-old closes in on an Ibrox exit. 

Martin will be expecting to receive the majority of the left-back’s £6million transfer fee to improve his squad further before the window closes on 1 September.

Who are Rangers planning to sign?

In terms of transfer targets, Football Insider revealed on 11 August Rangers are plotting a move to sign Kassoum Ouattara as they look to bring in a new left-back. 

Monaco have placed a £13million price tag on the 20-year-old, meaning a loan move is currently the preferred option for Ibrox chiefs. 

Rangers and Celtic have both been linked with Ouattara as they aim to bolster their defensive options. 

Martin wants to improve his backline following an unconvincing start to the Scottish Premiership season, where his side have drawn both of their opening two matches. 

It means Hearts and Celtic have already built up a four-point lead over Rangers after winning their first two fixtures. 

However, Rangers have made it through to the play-off round of the Champions League, where they will face Club Brugge for a place in the competition’s league phase.
