Doncaster Rovers are set to re-sign Southampton winger Josh Sims today, Football Insider understands.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider the two clubs have now agreed the terms of a new loan running for the rest of the season.

Doncaster Rovers

Sims initially moved to the Keepmoat in October on a three-month loan that ended on January 16.

With his Saints contract expiring at the end of the season this loan effectively ends Sims' Southampton career.

After breaking into the first-team as a 19-year-old in 2016, the winger has not featured for Southampton in the past two seasons.

He moved to MLS side New York Red Bulls on loan in August 2019 where he played 10 games and scored one goal.

After his loan with New York Red Bulls expired he moved to Doncaster where he enjoyed a fruitful first spell.

Sims provided seven assists and scored three goals in 14 games across all competitions for Darren Moore's side.

Doncaster are looking to return to the Championship for the first time since 2014 and are currently in the play-off positions.

They sit in fifth, just six points behind joint leaders Hull City and Lincoln City who they have three and two games in hand over respectively.

The Yorkshire outfit have added midfielder John Bostock on a free transfer and brought in Brentford goalkeeper Ellery Balcombe and Barnsley winger Elliot Simoes on loan this month.
