Sky Sports pundit David Prutton has raved about Hull City striker Abel Hernandez, and said he would be a brilliant signing for Leeds.

Hernandez, who is set to be a free agent this summer, has been linked with a move to Leeds once his contract expires.

And , talking in the Yorkshire Evening Post, Prutton thinks it would be a deal that would significantly boost Leeds' Championship credentials next season.

Writing in his column in the Yorkshire Evening Post, Prutton said: "Leeds are known to be looking at Hull City’s Abel Hernandez as one of their main striker targets and if he stays injury free he is a very competent Championship striker.”

“That’s the thing that he has struggled with in recent times – staying fit – which can just be the nature of being a footballer.

"Sometimes you have seasons where you play a lot of games, sometimes you have disrupted seasons.

“From the point of view of what he has done and where he has been and the pressure that he has played under, I think he would be a good signing for Leeds."

Football Insider verdict:

This is the big gamble with Hernandez. When he's fit he can easily monster the Championship. He's scored eight goals in his last nine games for Hull City. He won't come cheap – he's reported to be on £30k-a-week at Hull – but as he's available as a free agent, Leeds can afford topush the boat out on his salary. He's exactly what they need – a striker who's proven in the Championship and capable of rattling in 20 league goals. However, he missed out on the majority of this season through injury and that would have to get the alarm bells ringing, especially after buying Tyler Roberts from West Brom for £2.5million with a knock. Roberts still hasn't been fit enough to make his debut for Leeds. The hook-up with the San Francisco 49ers should provide Leeds with more funds this summer and it's essential that they get their summer buys right, after getting so much wrong last summer. If Hernandez can prove his fitness, he should be top of their list.
