Rangers will only let George Edmundson join Derby County if they sign Jack Simpson permanently by tomorrow night, Football Insider understands.

But an Ibrox source has told Football Insider that the deal hinges on Bournemouth's Jack Simpson joining on an immediate transfer in the next 24 hours.

Rangers announced the capture of Simpson, 24, on a pre-contract agreement earlier this week.

But the club are also in talks with the Cherries over a deal which see the move happen now, rather than in the summer.

Such a transfer would allow for Derby to sign Edmundson ahead of Monday night's deadline.

The centre-half has been the subject of interest from a number of Championship and League One clubs.

Gers boss Steven Gerrard is keen for the defender to spend the second half of the season in England to get regular game time at a high level.

His only appearance for the Light Blues this season came in a Europa League qualifier in September.

The defender was handed a seven-game suspension by the Scottish FA in November after he breached Covid regulations with teammate Jordan Jones.

Jones has since left the club on loan, he joined Sunderland in a deal which will see him stay at the Stadium of Light until the end of the season.

Edmundson, who joined from Oldham Athletic in July 2019, could follow if a fee for Simpson can be agreed with Bournemouth.
