Celtic have tabled an offer for Tottenham star Ryan Sessegnon but have been told it will cost more than £5million to loan him for the season, Football Insider understands.

But it will not be a cheap deal for the England Under-21 international's suitors and that could put paid to Celtic's hopes of what would be marquee signing.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Tottenham want more than £5m in loan fee and wages to grant the temporary exit of the £25million summer-of-2019 signing from Fulham.

Celtic have offered to pay more than £2m to take Sessegnon for the season, but the Londoners also want all of his wages covered.

Neil Lennon wants competition on the left flank for Greg Taylor following the exit of Boli Bolingoli.

Attention has turned to Sessegnon as he is available and seen as an ideal fit at wing-back for the manager's preferred 3-5-2 formation.

Sessegnon's chances of regular playing time this season at Spurs have been hit by the signings of Gareth Bale and Sergio Reguilon.

The wide man has struggled to make an impact at Spurs following his protracted transfer from Fulham 13 months ago and has even made the matchday squad for five of their six matches this season.

Longer term, Mourinho regards Sessegnon as a left-back capable of establishing himself as a first choice for club and country, and able to shine in the Champions League.

Sessegnon has made just four Premier League starts among 12 appearances in all competitions since joining Tottenham.
