Celtic are continuing to pursue Wigan Athletic striker Kyle Joseph despite their managerial vacancy, Football Insider has learned.

This site revealed at the end of January that the Glasgow giants had made an approach for the Scotland Under-19 striker.

Joseph is out of contract at the DW Stadium in the summer and Celtic are keen to sign him on a pre-contract deal.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Celtic are still working on luring top young talent ahead of the summer window despite the absence of a full-time manager.

Neil Lennon resigned last week before he was sacked on the back of a calamitous campaign.

Shortly before he left, Lennon announced the club had completed the signing of Liam Shaw from Sheffield Wednesday on a pre-contract.

The young defender, 19, who can also play in midfield, will arrive in the summer when his Wednesday deal expires.

Like Shaw, Joseph is also 19 and has made waves in recent months in the EFL.

The London-born youngster, who has been capped at Scotland at Under-19 level, did not make his debut until October and then banged in five goals from just 14 league appearances.

He is currently out with a back injury that has kept him out for a month and is expected to sideline him for an extended period.

Football Insider revealed that Wigan rejected an offer of around £500,000 for Joseph from Barnsley in January.

He has also been linked with the likes of Tottenham, Arsenal and Sheffield United, while Rangers are weighing up a move.

The major advantage Celtic and Rangers have over English clubs is they can take advantage of cross-border rules to sign Joseph on a pre-contract.
