Cheltenham Town are set to beat-the-deadline to sign striker Ryan Bowman from League Two rivals Exeter City, Football Insider understands.

Bowman has been a target for a number of League One and League Two clubs this month, but Cheltenham are poised to land him before the transfer window closes at 11 pm.

Burton Albion are understood to have had a bid rejected for Bowman during this month's transfer window and now Cheltenham have stolen a march in the race for his signature.

A Cheltenham source has told Football Insider that talks are an advanced stage with Exeter over a deal for Bowman.

Bowman joined Exeter from Scottish Premier League side Motherwell in January 2019 after scoring 14 goals in 86 games for the Fir Park outfit.

Cheltenham Town boss Michael Duff is keen to build a squad capable of winning promotion from League Two and he sees Bowman as a key addition to his side.

Cheltenham have already signed attacking midfielder Callum Wright from Premier League side Leicester City on a loan on deadline day and they hope to make Bowman their second new arrival of the day.

Duff's side recently grabbed the headlines when they took a 1-0 lead over Premier League giants Manchester City in the FA Cup before falling to a 3-1 defeat.

They are currently on a six-game unbeaten run in League Two and sit in fourth place - just one point behind Carlisle United who occupy the final automatic promotion place.
