Man United midfielder James Garner has headed to Nottingham Forest to undergo a medical that began this morning, Football Insider has learned.

Now a United source has told Football Insider that Garner is putting the finishing touches to a Forest loan move today.

The highly-rated youngster has been granted permission by United to begin a medical and is then set to pen a contract with the Championship outfit.

United are set to simultaneously announce that Garner has signed a new contract as well as agreed to join Forest.

The fresh agreement will replace the midfielder's current deal, signed when he was aged 18 back in 2019, and which was due to expire next year.

United's plan this summer has been to extend Garner's contract and send him out on a new season-long loan after spells last season at Watford before Christmas and then Forest in the second half of the campaign.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer revealed at his media conference yesterday that the 20-year-old sensation was set for another temporary move to gain more senior playing experience.

Garner played 21 times for Watford last season before switching to the City Ground in January, where he made a further 20 appearances and scored four goals.

A central midfielder, he has been a regular among United's first team for their pre-season fixtures, and has been named by Bruno Fernandes as one of the club's two star young players.
