Leeds United have sealed the signing of Scottish youngster Stuart McKinstry after he passed his medical at the club today (Thursday), Football Insider understands.

The winger, 16, finalised the terms of a transfer rising to £400,000 after heading to United's Thorp Arch training ground to complete medical tests and the formalities of the deal.

A club source has told Football Insider that Leeds had agreed a deal with Motherwell to sign McKinstry in February and now the teenager has signed an initial scholarship deal that will become a three-year pro deal when he turns 17 in September.

McKinstry will remain at Rugby Park for the rest of the season and link up with his new club in the summer.

Motherwell are set to benefit from having a sell-on clause in the deal.

McKinstry is regarded as one of the best young prospects in Scotland and has been on the fringes of the Motherwell first-team this season.
