Leicester City have set their sights on signing ex-West Ham attacking midfielder Sead Haksabanovic, sources have told Football Insider.

The 23-year-old is currently at Russian club Rubin Kazan but is seeking a move away due to the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

Leicester, Anderlecht, and French duo Stade Reims and Angers are all ready to capitalise on the situation surrounding Russian clubs by landing Haksabanovic for a knockdown fee and offering him a permanent move away from Russia.

International broker Simon Conning has been mandated to sound out interest in the player and find a solution for him to leave Russia.

He has spent the last four months on loan at Swedish club Djurgarden after FIFA gave special dispensation to foreign players in Russia to suspend their contracts and join another club until the end of the 2021-22 season.

Haksabanovic scored two goals and provided two assists in 11 appearances for Djurgarden after impressing in the Russian Premier Liga with Rubin prior to the outbreak of war.

The versatile attacker joined West Ham from Halmstads BK in 2017, when Slaven Bilic was the manager.

He was unable to make an impact in East London due to a change of managers and spent most of his time at the Hammers out on loan.

Haksabanovic left West Ham in January 2019 to join IFK Norrkoping on loan with the move becoming permanent that summer.

It was at Norrkoping where he started to fulfil his potential and landed a £6million move to Rubin Kazan in May 2021 in what was a club-record sale for the Swedish club.

Leicester are yet to make a summer addition after last season's eighth-place finish - but are increasingly likely to lose star man Youri Tielemans as he enters the final year of his contract.
