Sources: Leicester coach Kolo Toure agrees Wigan Athletic deal
Leicester City coach Kolo Toure has agreed a deal to be the new Wigan Athletic manager, sources have told Football Insider.
The former Arsenal and Man City defender, 41, has told Leicester he has decided to accept an offer to replace Leam Richardson at the Championship club.
Toure has reached an agreement with Wigan and is expected to be appointed in the next 48 hours.
Brendan Rodgers' right-hand man has seen off competition from the likes of Everton legend Duncan Ferguson, who was also interviewed by Wigan, to land the post.
Former Blackpool boss Neil Critchley was also in the running, but the Latics hierarchy have opted to go for Toure - who is taking his first-ever managerial post.
As well as his work with Leicester, the ex-Liverpool defender also holds an assistant manager role for the Ivory Coast national side.
He worked under Rodgers at Celtic between 2017 and 2019 in what was a trophy-laden spell at Parkhead.
The two-time Premier League winner hung up his boots while playing for the Hoops in 2017 after making 520 club appearances.
Toure joins Wigan with the Lancashire side marooned in the Championship bottom three.
The managerless side signed off for the mid-season World Cup break with a 2-1 win over near-neighbours Blackpool on Saturday (12 November).
Wigan are next in action against Millwall on 10 December - giving Toure around three weeks to work with his new squad.
The Latics have one of the worst defensive records in the Championship and have accumulated the second-worst goal difference so far this season.
