Man United and goalkeeper David de Gea are optimistic about reaching an agreement over a new contract, sources have told Football Insider.

The 32-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and the Old Trafford club want him to take a pay cut on his reported £375,000 weekly wage.

Football Insider revealed on Monday (17 April) that De Gea has been left unsatisfied with all offers made in negotiations thus far.

Nevertheless, a well-placed Man United source told this site that the Spaniard remains "happy" at the club.

It is believed that there is a real willingness to strike a deal from all parties despite rumours linking Erik ten Hag's side with a new goalkeeper this summer.

De Gea, who is the highest earner at Old Trafford, is one of several stars yet to have their long-term future resolved.

Senior stars Marcus Rashford, Fred and Diogo Dalot are among those out of contract in June 2024 as Man United look to curb their wage bill spending.

Back-up goalkeepers Tom Heaton and Jack Butland are also set to walk away from Old Trafford for free this summer when their deals expire.

Dean Henderson, who previously challenged De Gea for a place in the starting lineup, is set to return to the club after his Nottingham Forest loan ends this summer.

De Gea has been a mainstay in Ten Hag's side this season, making 47 appearances across all competitions and helping Man United to triumph in the League Cup.

The ex-Spain international has kept 14 Premier League clean sheets in the 2022-23 campaign and now leads the race to win the top-flight's Golden Glove award.
