Middlesbrough are set to make an offer for Fleetwood Town winger Wes Burns, Football Insider understands.

Boro boss Jonathan Woodgate has been scouring the transfer market for wingers all summer and he has now set his sights on former Wales Under-21 international Burns.

Burns impressed at Fleetwood last season, winning the club's Player of the Year and Goal of the Season awards at the end of last season.

The 24-year-old performances last term brought him to the attention of clubs higher up the pyramid and now a source close to Middlesbrough has told Football Insider that the club is ready to offer him the chance to move to the Championship.

Fleetwood are reluctant to lose Burns as they look to keep hold of their best players, but Middlesbrough are ready to test their resolve with an offer before Thursday's transfer deadline.

Other Championship clubs are chasing Burns but Middlesbrough look like being the first to turn this interest into a concrete offer.
