Motherwell midfielder David Turnbull has told friends he wants to join Celtic after they had a bid rejected for him, Football Insider understands.

The Hoops are battling to beat multiple English clubs to the signature of the highly rated 19-year-old, who is regarded as one of the outstanding young talents in Scottish football.

A source with knowledge of Turnbull's situation has told Football Insider the rising star is eager to make the short journey from Fir Park to Parkhead this summer.

Celtic have tabled an offer of nearly £2million for the Scottish Football Writers Association's young player of the year but Motherwell are holding out for £3million for their prize asset.

There is rival interest from Premier League and Championship clubs south of the border, but Celtic are well placed to sign a player whom manager Neil Lennon is convinced is destined for big things.

Turnbull burst onto the scene to make 34 appearances for 'Well in the recent season, scoring a hugely impressive 16 goals as well as supplying seven assists.

The Scotland Under-21 international ended the campaign in a blaze of goals and dazzling performances to convince Celtic he can be a major asset for them in the coming seasons.
